Around 70,000 graduates in Ireland will soon transition from education to the labour force for their first job. They are moving into a jobs market in constant change with a decline in routine tasks and a rise in technology-intensive tasks and digitisation.
Many jobs are becoming “greener” with the move towards more sustainable production and consumption. Social, creative, and caring skills are increasingly important, given the need to communicate with diverse customers, collaborate on work teams and provide care services for an ageing population. The challenge is how the transition from education into work can be made as smooth as possible.In recognition of these challenges, the recent OECD Event on the Education-To-Work Transition explored how to best support young people in this important phase of their lives.
