The Trust Piggy Bank – A Mindset for Success with Remote Teams

I often get asked for tips on managing remote teams from frustrated managers who find it hard to get people to do what they want them to do. While I believe that there are many effective techniques and tools that can be part of the answer, the biggest observation I’ve made about managing remote teams will is that much of the challenge, and the opportunity boils down to one thing – Trust.

Techniques like Kanban and Scrum, and tools like Mira, Jira and Teams are incredibly useful when it comes to managing the work of teams, but when it comes to managing the actual people – they are woefully inadequate. What you need to build is trust, and in some teams this is badly lacking. But it doesn’t need to stay that way.

The “Trust Piggy Bank" is a simple yet powerful way to visualize the dynamics of trust between two people. It’s also a great tactic to make tiny changes to your interactions that can, over time, drastically increase the levels offalse
