IITD Training Awards 2022, Best Practice Case Studies

Summary

Learning and Development is an integral part of daily life in all organisations. L&D is now seen as an enterprise role that closely partners with all areas and levels within the business, keenly focused on developing learning solutions in support of strategic, divisional, team, and individual levels within the organisation. Join us for insights from the winners of the National Training Awards to hear great case studies that delivered success.

ESB - The winners in this category ESB, provided clear evidence that their initiatives delivered on organisational and professional needs, integrating best practices with high standards of professionalism. ESB also had a focus on the sustainability of their initiatives. This was reflected not only on the skills that are required currently, but also with an extra strategic focus on what is likely to be required in the future. The judges were very pleased to see how coaching and mentoring have evolved in importance within organisations and across professions.

Bank of Ireland - The winners in this category, Bank of Ireland, showed a remarkable ability to recognise the need for constant change and improvement in the programme as well as ongoing measurement of its impact on the business. Inspired by the arrival of the new CEO recently, Talent Management at the Bank engaged with the graduate stakeholder group to identify opportunities for programme improvement. This led to a focus in the past year on bespoke learning opportunities, communications strategy, and networking opportunities. Utilising technology in an agile and crafted way, graduates can build custom development suited to their own needs and tastes. They are also enabled to adjust their rotations in a flexible way, giving them a certain autonomy in their initial career path. In the building future leaders’ element of the programme, attention is given to growing competence through gaining responsibility and exposure to leadership models thus accelerating the graduates’ development. Assessment of the programme’s success is achieved through control group comparisons of engagement and culture perceptions thus compiling evidence of success in a credible asserting of programme effectiveness.

Tallaght University Hospital - This category is synonymous with creative uses of technology to solve a problem, and this year the winner used simple technology to engender agency in all staff associated with the project. The concept of bite size chunks of information, converted to short, sharp ‘just in time’ videos for learners, was well executed by the category winner. In addition to improving quality in the organisation, the project has engendered a cultural and behavioural shift in the organisation.

HSE:The initiative focused on the ability of this significant organisation to be agile and embed a culture of systemic change through most challenging times.

Sometimes people think of learning as an individual activity conducted in isolation, but the reality is that learning is very much a social experience. It is a collaborative venture and events, whether they are workshop sessions, webinars, or keynote presentations, gives members the chance to listen to other people, and to develop your ideas alongside your peers.
